I just wanted to give a big 'thank you' to everyone who responded to my last journal. It really means a lot to me whenever anyone comments on my work, good or bad. I feel a little guilty using the word 'critique' to vaguely describe the comment I received. I let a friend look over it and I guess it really wasn't a critique but more of a personal attack. I realize it'll be the first of many but I guess it's taking me a while to get used to some of the mindless hostility that comes with making your work a little more known.
Especially with the alien topic. Man, just don't even write about aliens if you don't want the tin-foil wearing folks to come a-knocking. lol
Again, I just want to thank you all for being kind and supportive people. It really means a lot to me that you take time to read my comic and view my artwork.
Now for something completely different! Here's a fun little Meme I found on :zeticon:'s journal:
OC MEME:
Write out the names of your characters and explain:
1) How you thought of their name
2) What made you create the character in the first place
3) How the character has changed over time (if they have changed)
4) Any random fun fact about that character
Hue
1) Hue's name (along with the other Greys minus EBE1) are supposed to be ironic considering they live in a fairly colorless world. Color and words used to describe it also seem to be abstract concepts that the Greys have little understanding of.
2) I'm not terribly certain what got me writing about aliens in the first place. I know I created the story between the ages of 13 and 14 (so about 9 years ago) and it was originally called 'Meaningless Love'. Worst. Title. Evar. Anyway, Hue and Rose were the first characters then Shade, Tone, 'The Commander', General Merraine, and Roger followed suit. The rest of the cast filled out when I picked it back up in college.
3) Hue's demeanor has changed very little though he was bolder about what he wanted. In the original script, he was a hybrid with his human appearance being his only appearance (he wasn't really a Grey at all to be honest). I'm not positive but I also think he disguised himself as a priest to blend in with people on Earth. I eventually scrapped all of that making him a full Grey and putting the religious themes with Phillis' character.
4) Hue is essentially deaf.
Rose
1) Rose's name has always been because of her mother but I can't really talk about that right now.
2) Rose was created in tangent with Hue so she's always been his spit-fire love interest.
3) She hasn't really changed much except that the way I draw her hair has become more defined.
4) This always seems to surprise people, but I'm not Rose and she's not me. I don't look like Rose and I don't really act like her. She's just my character. ono; I'm sorry!
Quazky and the Reptoids
(I'm addressing them as a group since I conceptualized them as a group.)
1) I seriously made up the name Quazky. I realize now that it has some similarities to the feathered serpent deity, Quetzalcoatl but it was really a happy accident. The other Reptoids (Longus, Magnus, Gracelis,) all have muscle names, these three in particular are muscles in the groin. I created them shortly after an anatomy drawing class.
2) Reptoid aliens kick butt and I wanted to try my own interpretation of them. I also wanted a group of aliens that were more human in their behavior but more foreign in their appearance.
3) When I created them, they were more like the hyenas in The Lion King in that they were this menacing group of pests that were more comic relief than actual villains. I realized later that since I wasn't portraying the Greys as one large evil race, I shouldn't do it to the Reptoids as well. Quazky didn't have any lines except to laugh or say he was hungry. Longus was more like Quazky is now, a womanizer (HA!) and boisterous comedian. Gracelis was well... Gracelis but more mean! Originally, I wrote a scene where she would shape shift to look like Phillis just to taunt EBE1 with her ghostly visage. Magnus hasn't changed a bit.
4) Well you all know Quazky eats skunks so that's nothing new. Hmmm... He's kind of short and weak for a Reptoid? Not like that means anything compared to human height and strength! lol

But in the end, I know the inner-gut feeling of worry and general taunting thought that people really think you suck. Story of my life woman, story of my life :C
Don't worry so much. People think you're good, I think you're good! I even envy your art skills. And even looking at your old stuff gives me a ton of hope that my art WILL get better in the future :3~<333 Don't you give up! It can only get better from here
On a lighter note: I should do that meme, even though I have like 20-something FF characters and 35435 OS characters D8. IMMA THINKS I'LL DO EET. I MIGHT DO OC FIRST WHACHU THINKS?
