I can't stand the neccisary evil of sketching over real-life pictures for making backgrounds,
but your way of "cross-breeding" your idea and the reality is a much less "gross" way of doing art, whilist also keeping porportions and uniqueness.
Definitely gonna try to learn using this!

Yeah this actually helped me a lot in the early days!  I use a lot of other quickie methods now like doing rough models in SketchUp or just going totally by intuition/the seat of my pants.  I help this helps folks starting out. :D

This is great! Well done! I do a hybrid of this and the 'sketchup' method. I find the building that I want in Sketchup, pose it and then export as a 2d image. Then I use essentially this exact method to create the final image.

So cool to see this laid out so well and in such easy to understand steps. Great job!!

Ooh, I love that quickie perspective trick. It can be a real pain in the butt to draw out all the vanishing points and such from scratch, but at the same time I hate just straight up tracing photos, so this is a nice in between.

That is exactly the kind of thing I needed.  I'm so bad at backgrounds, mostly because I can't get perspective into my brain.  But this is a fantastic way of cheating!

I like how you colored it and stuff...

I really need to figure out how to get bg's to look that way. I'm pretty bad with figuring out how to juggle lines and shading and stuff... If I don't put perspective lines then it turns out wobbly, but if I do put perspective lines then either I'll remove them later and the image will look odd to me, or I keep them but color over them and the image looks too geometric.
